Freeview TV Guide: What equipment do I need?

  • TV

You need the following equipment to enjoy Freeview:

  1. TV, Box or Freeview video recorder

If you bought a TV after 2010, Freeview is already included. All you have to do is to connect a working antenna to watch live TV.

If you have a Freeview HD TV, you can enjoy up to 15 HD channels. If you want to be able to pause, rewind and record live TV, you can upgrade to Freeview HD or Freeview Play Recorder-visit the Freeview product page to see the available range.

Moreover, if you choose Freeview Play devices, you can get the benefits of live TV in one place, access to market and on-demand content.

  1. Antenna

To get Freeview, you need the antenna to be in good condition and pointing in the correct direction of the transmitter. Although Freeview can be used for indoor (top or portable) antennas, for best results, we recommend using rooftop antennas.

If you need more information or want to check if the antenna is working properly, please read the air troubleshooting guide first. If you still need advice, we recommend that you contact a qualified aerial installation technician who will understand the local situation and geographic location of your area and provide you with the best choice.

Visit the following sites to find a local site that suits you:

  • GetMeDigital.com-registered digital stabilizer

Remember, getting multiple quotes is always a good idea.

  1. TV license

No matter which TV service you use, everyone who watches British TV broadcasts must obtain an annual TV license. In some cases, you may be eligible for a free license or franchise, but most of us need to pay for this please visit the TV licensing website.

After paying for the TV license with Freeview, you don’t need to pay any other fees at the top.

If you just want to watch Freeview digital terrestrial TV channels, you don’t need an Internet connection. However, if you have a Freeview Play device and want to access the following content and on-demand content, you need an Internet connection of at least 2 Mbps.

Do I need an antenna? What type of antenna do I need?

Yes, you need an antenna to receive Freeview on the TV.

If you already have an antenna, make sure the cable is not damaged and it is connected to the vent in your home. The antenna must be firmly connected to the jack on the back of the Freeview TV or Recorder.

It should also be in the correct location and not be damaged by the weather. It is worth checking if he is pointing at other people nearby.

What type of antenna do I need?

For best results, we recommend using a broadband antenna. Also known as T-type (“total”) or W-type (“broadband”), it covers all the signal range used to transmit digital TV, even if your TV signal changes, you can continue to run

Overhead antennas or portable indoor antennas may work in areas with good reception, but they may be subject to electrical interference from other household appliances.

What if I share antennas?

If you live in an apartment building or shared home, you may have a shared TV system that can provide signals to many homes through a single antenna. Talk to your neighbours to see if they use Freeview and how reception is-if they get good reception, you might do the same.

If they can’t see the perfect picture, please have the owner, management company or housing association conduct a collective aerial inspection.
